It is seldom that a walrus finds its way to Denmark.

The massive animals which weigh several hundred kilos are usually found in Greenland, Spitsbergen, and Siberia. However, a very live walrus appeared on the beach in Nissum Fjord in 2010. According to the Forest – and Nature Board it has only happened twice before in recent times – and all of them on the west coast.

Maybe Jens Stobberup was inspired by these rare occurrences when he carved the walrus, which now lies calmly and enjoys the sun at Struer Harbour. The walrus is carved from granite.

The year for set up is unknown.
