The Gateway to Creation by Henrik Voldmester

The sculpture ’The Gateway to Creation’ was set up right next to Struer Church in 1992. It was a somewhat delayed celebration of the church’s 100th anniversary in 1991.

It consists of four granite stones of which the three form a gateway with frames and a bar. One larger granite stone is placed slanting in the gateway, and it is integrated into a steel plate which forms a square surface as if it were an open door. On one side the door is dark steel, while on the other, the stainless steel stands out like a mirror.

The sculpture describes the exact moment when the World was created – There Will Be Light! – and light and darkness are thus separated. Likewise, the door is dark on one side and bright on the other. ’The Gateway to Creation’ is a moment between everything and nothing, frozen in time.
