The artist, Justas Michevicius, from Lithuania has carved ‘The Tree of Life’ in red granite. The sculpture was set up in 2011.

The water rises from the tree’s top, and the silent stream of water runs down through neatly carved leaves and fruits.

Subsequently, the water falls from the tree’s top, down to its interlaced roots, which are deeply anchored in a round basin. When the drops of water hit the surface, they make a trickling sound, which leads the thoughts onto an abundance of fertility – of life.
The circle is the symbol of eternity.

The tree stands strong, and is filled with leaves and fruits. The Old Testament tells the story of two trees in Paradise. If mankind eats the fruit from the tree of knowledge, they will be able to separate good and evil. If they eat the fruit from the tree of life, they will be granted eternal life.

When the serpent persuaded Adam and Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge, they were evicted from Paradise. ‘The Tree of Life’ is a symbol of faith and eternal life.
