The bronze sculpture Vestjyden is a gift from the artist of Aabybro Henrik Busk Andersen to Struer Municipality. The sculpture is a a tribute to the good relationship between the artist and the people of Western Jutland.

Andersens paintings are acclaimed for their portrayal of humans and the human emotions. The paintings, that are done with bright colors and abstract compositions, hang in many buildings around Western Jutland. This also in Struer Municipality, which owns several copies.

Vestjyden weighs about 90 kg and is 80 cm high, in addition to a plinth of one meter. This makes it stand firmly and gives it the ability to symbolize resistance to the westerlies.

Henrik Busk Andersen on West Jutland:
“The sculpture in its figurative expression stands up against the westerlies with protruding chest and takes on the wind as the bullfighter takes on the bull. The wind is resistance, the figure is strength against the familiar and the foreign - what makes one of the West Coast. And the little child asks ‘What is he doing?’. "He stands firm, just like you and me."

In the spirit of the work, Vestjyden is located on the Promenade Quay at Struer Harbor, where it stands firm and takes on the wind, just like so many people of Western Jutland has done before. Incidentally, only a few steps away from another sculpture which was also a gift to Struer, namely Sarpsborgpigen.
