| Two Stones in Granite by Valdemar Andersen |
The two stones are graced with strong fundamental symbols from art throughout time.
The local artist, Valdemar Andersen has been inspired by sun – and moon signs from the Old Norse world of art on this great horizontal granite stone. Sun – and moon signs are symbols of power, strength, and life throughout the changing seasons and cosmos. On the smaller vertical stone is an hourglass. It is a so-called vanitas symbol, which symbolises the passing of time, the fragile state of the earth, and reminds us that we will all perish.
Additionally, you can also see a symbol on the stone which is a tree of life. Another powerful symbol of life and heritage. Within the Christian faith the symbol is extremely important, and one can argue that a cross is a simpler version of the tree of life. This work of art was set up in 1992. |
